Rules for staying with a dog at Osada 12+

We love animals, but as hosts we need to ensure our interiors remain in impeccable condition for every next Guest. Additional cleaning after pets and potential minor damages require more work from us, which is why we have introduced a transparent fee system:
  • Little traveler (dog up to 10 kg): A one-time fee for the entire stay is 200 PLN.
  • Bigger challenges (dogs over 10 kg or more than one pet): The fee for the entire stay is 500 PLN.
We believe these rules will help us maintain the comfort and cleanliness you value so much at Osada12+, while giving you the opportunity to enjoy the proximity of the Pieniny and Gorce Mountains alongside your best friend.

Pieniny National Park with a dog – where you can enter and where bans apply?

Although entering most trails of the Pieniny National Park with a dog (including Trzy Korony and Sokolica) is strictly prohibited, dog owners can legally walk along the Pieniny Road and numerous trails in the neighboring Gorce Mountains and the Luban range. Staying in Kluszkowce, where our Osada12+ is located, gives you direct access to trails in the Gorce Mountains where dogs are welcome.

Official rules of PNP

The Pieniny National Park (PNP) applies a strict nature protection policy, which means that, according to current regulations, bringing dogs into strictly and actively protected areas is not allowed. This ban covers the most popular tourist destinations in the region:
  • Trzy Korony and Sokolica: A total ban on entering with dogs (including small dogs carried in backpacks).
  • Homole Gorge and Wysokie Skałki: Although located in the Małe Pieniny (outside the PNP area), local regulations and reserve protection often also restrict entry with dogs.

Where to walk legally? (Dog-friendly alternatives)

Lack of access to the Pieniny peaks does not mean a lack of walking trails. The surroundings of Czorsztyn offer some of the most beautiful paths in Poland, which are 100% accessible for dog owners:
  1. Pienińska Road: This is an absolute classic. The trail runs along the Dunajec Gorge from Szczawnica to the Red Monastery in Slovakia. The route is flat, wide, and runs right next to the river, which is ideal for "water dogs".
  2. Lubań Range (Gorce): Located just above Czorsztyn, the Gorce are much more open to kynotourism. You can hike with your dog to the summit of Lubań (1211 m above sea level), where there is a viewing tower with a panorama of Lake Czorsztyn and the entire Tatra Mountains.
  3. Velo Czorsztyn Trail: The asphalt path around the lake is an ideal place for a long walk or run with your dog. Numerous MOR (Cyclist Service Points) have shelters where you can rest together in the shade. Note: The trail is crowded in high season, so we do not recommend walking this route then to avoid disturbing cyclists.
  4. Niedzica Dam Area: Walking along the dam crown and surrounding clearings with views of both castles is an excellent option for a short, safe walk on a leash.
Worth remembering: In accessible areas (e.g., Pienińska Road), dogs must be kept on a leash.

Castle walls

Castle in Czorsztyn and Niedzica – can you visit with a dog?

Entry with a dog into the interiors of the Niedzica Castle and to the paid tour path of the Czorsztyn Castle ruins is prohibited. However, you can freely walk with your pet on the external grounds, admire both fortresses from the viewing paths, and take your dog on the boat running between the castles.

Czorsztyn Castle (Wronin)

The Czorsztyn Castle ruins fall under the Pieniny National Park, which dictates strict rules:
  • Inside: Dogs are not allowed on the paid tour route (courtyards, viewing terraces, exhibitions).
  • Surroundings: You can approach the castle gate with your dog and walk the paths in its immediate vicinity, provided the dog is on a leash. The view of the castle from the green mountain meadows above the lake is just as impressive as from its walls.
  • Logistics from Kluszkowce: It is best to leave your car in Kluszkowce and walk a stretch along the Velo Czorsztyn trail towards the castle – the route is scenic and very dog-friendly.

Rules for entering with a dog

Niedzica Castle (Dunajec)

The castle in Niedzica is private property (Association of Art Historians), but the rules are similar:
  • Inside: There is a total ban on bringing dogs into the courtyards, coach house, granary, and museum interiors.
  • Outside: The best way to "tour" with a dog is to walk along the crown of the Dam in Niedzica. From this level, the castle looks best in photos, and the dog has plenty of space to move freely.
  • Beach and clearings: Below the castle, there is a beach and extensive clearings where tourists with dogs often rest (remember to clean up!).

How to combine sightseeing with caring for your dog?

If you really want to go inside, we recommend taking turns. One person stays outside with the dog (e.g., at one of the cafes near the marina where dogs are welcome), and the other tours the castle (the tour lasts about 45-60 minutes).

Where to eat with a dog?

What can you do with a dog in Czorsztyn? Active with your pet

Czorsztyn and Kluszkowce are among the few places in the mountains where activities with a dog are not limited to walks – you can kayak, SUP, or cover kilometers of Velo Czorsztyn bike trails together with your pet.
  • Running, cycling, and bikejoring on Velo Czorsztyn. The asphalt surface and wide shoulders allow safe running with a dog. Bike rental shops offer special trailers for dogs, making it possible to complete the entire 40-kilometer loop around the lake even with smaller or older dogs. We emphasize: Situations where you ride a bike and the dog runs (bikejoring) are recommended only in the low season when there is little traffic on the trail. During peak season, it may be dangerous for the dog due to heavy trail traffic.
  • Kayaks and SUP. Stable polyethylene kayaks are ideal for taking a dog on board. SUP boarding with a dog is also becoming increasingly popular – the lake’s surface is usually very calm early in the morning, which facilitates learning.
  • Boat and gondola cruises: "Biała Flota" ships (Harnaś, Lubań) accept dogs on board (leash required, sometimes a muzzle). It’s a great way to admire the structures from the water perspective without parting with your pet.
  • Dog trekking. Dogs are welcome in the Gorce Mountains, and we especially recommend the route from Kluszkowce to the top of Lubań (blue trail) – it is quite demanding but extremely rewarding hike through forests and meadows, ending at one of the best viewing platforms in Poland.
